On a recent sunny weekend, volunteers removed graffiti and old tires; put identification numbers on alleys and buildings, planted gardens and cleaned up vacant lots. The event, Basura Bash, took place in Clarke Square on June 4th.
Volunteers ended the day at Clarke Square Park, 2330 W. Vieau Place, where they were offered free food, a climbing wall, games and entertainment.
In its fourth year, Basura Bash is a collaborative effort of Safe & Sound, Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful and the Department of Neighborhood Services, along with other neighborhood groups, law enforcement agencies, elected officials and community and faith-based organizations.
Every year, Basura Bash is held at a different south side park.Did you like this story? Subscribe to NNS today.
