The Gwen T. Jackson Early Childhood and Elementary School, 2121 W. Hadley St., in Lindsay Heights, will have a new principal next fall. Kanika Burks will replace the outgoing principal, Minnie Pulliam Novy. Before her selection to lead the school, Burks served as an assistant principal at Phillis Wheatley School, 2442 N. 20th St.
Principal Juan Baez will head the Hopkins-Lloyd Community School, 1503 W. Hopkins St., the product of the merger of the Hopkins and Lloyd schools. Baez was the principal of Hopkins before the two schools were combined.
Principal Stanley McWilliams, formerly of the Washington High School of Information Technology, 2525 N. Sherman Blvd., received a new school assignment and will be the principal of North Division High School, 1011 W. Center St., next fall.
New principals will be taking the reins at 39 Milwaukee Public Schools in the fall; 30 are new to the role, while nine current MPS principals received new school assignments. More than 22 percent of MPS schools are changing principals, due to an unusual number of retirements.
