The 4th annual Clarke Square Weed & Seed National Night Out will take place Friday, August 6, 2010. Residents are invited to Clarke Square Park, 2330 W. Vieau Place (23rd & Mineral), from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. for complimentary refreshments, music and entertainment, and to learn about available community and crime prevention resources. Evening highlights will include the unveiling of the new Clarke Square neighborhood logo. A rain date has been set for Thursday, August 13, 2010.
The theme chosen by the Clarke Square Weed & Seed Initiative for this year’s event is “Working Together Works.” The theme ties together the purpose of National Night Out with the program’s focus, to “weed out” violent behavior and criminal activity through law enforcement and effective community policing while “seeding” the community and empowering its residents through crime prevention, intervention, economic revitalization and neighborhood restoration.
National Night Out is a day designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).
