A program that helps seniors access earned benefits that can help them live more safely and comfortably has received financial support. The Retirement Research Foundation of Chicago has announced a grant award for the Senior Benefit Enrollment Program at the Social Development Commission (SDC).
The Public Benefit Enrollment Program is coordinated by the Senior Companion Program at SDC to help seniors enroll in programs like Medicare Savings, Extra Help for Medicare Part D, and Food Share. The program has assisted hundreds of seniors to sign up for those benefits since it started in early 2011 and has had an economic impact of approximately one-million dollars on participants.
The Retirement Research Foundation grant will help the enrollment program continue to serve Milwaukee County seniors in 2014.
