There is a new no-cost choice for tax filers who want to file their own tax returns this season. The option offered by the Milwaukee Asset Building Coalition (MABC) and the Social Development Commission (SDC) is providing access to a free on-line tax filing service this year.
The local tax preparation service is offering a link to the “My Free Taxes” program. This free on-line tax filing service is coordinated by the United Way, Goodwill Industries and the National Disability Institute. It is intended to help tax filers whose income in 2013 was less than $58,000 with their federal and state taxes.
To access the service, go to the SDC website at www.cr-sdc.org and click on the link listed on the upper right hand corner of the home page under “What’s New”. This link will take you to the program page and get you started in collecting the needed materials, filling out and filing your taxes on-line.
The free service is provided by the MABC and SDC program as another way to increase filing options for low and moderate income families and individuals. The program is also currently filling out and filing taxes at no charge at sites located across Milwaukee County for residents. In its first 12 years of service, the MABC and SDC program has filed more than 132,000 tax returns that brought back more than $146-million in tax refunds and credits to local residents.
