Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs’ 8th Annual Freedom Scholarship Essay Contest for 2015 has extended its deadline. The contest encourages students to put into words what the concept of “freedom” means to them and how they can combat and prevent prejudice, discrimination, and violence in our world today.
The extended deadline for the scholarship competition is Thursday, August 20, 2015. Alderwoman Coggs highlighted the importance of giving young people the opportunity to express their reflections about freedom in a way that can benefit themselves and society. “By granting our youth this opportunity to have a voice, we are showing them the impact they can have on this city, setting them up to become productive adults and leaders in Milwaukee,” she said.
Two scholarships will be awarded and excerpts from winning essays may be published, Alderwoman Coggs added.
