Milwaukee Christian Center is hosting an Open House on Wednesday, August 17th at their newly completed YouthBuild home located in the Walker Square neighborhood. This Open House is a celebration of the completion of the home, its purchase by first-time homeowners from the neighborhood, and the conclusion of a year of construction training for members of MCC’s YouthBuild Program. The event will take place from 11:00a.m. – 2:00p.m., with a brief ceremony at 11:30a.m.
Join MCC, Mayor Tom Barrett, Alderman José Pérez, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Eric Wynn of J.H. Findorff & Sons, Inc., MCC YouthBuild AmeriCorps members and other distinguished guests in celebrating the completion of MCC YouthBuild’s 14th home, in the heart of the Walker’s Square Neighborhood on Milwaukee’s near south side. Refreshments, food and tours will follow the brief ceremony.
MCC’s YouthBuild Program provides young adults, ages 18-24, with an opportunity to earn their GED, learn construction skills, and serve their community. In the 10 years MCC has operated its YouthBuild Program, 14 new homes have been built and sold to low income families, with one more nearing completion and two new homes scheduled to begin this fall. MCC’s YouthBuild new construction homes not only improve neighborhoods, but also increase the possibility of home-ownership with local residents.
