Milwaukee was one of six cities (Los Angeles, Boston, Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., and Jackson, Michigan) that launched “Startup in A Day” (SIAD) solutions, making it easier for businesses to get started. The goal is to make it possible for entrepreneurs to apply for everything necessary to begin a business within one business day. Milwaukee’s StartSmart website offers information in English and Spanish.
SBA Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet recently launched Milwaukee’s new StartSmart online small business licensing and permitting platform. In addition, Milwaukee was highlighted in the SBA’s national announcement on Startup in a Day launches around the country. Almost 100 cities around the country have now taken the pledge to develop similar online tools. Thanks to the work of the city, and the SBA Startup in a Day-Start Small $50,000 prize presented to Milwaukee last year, it will now be easier for Milwaukee small businesses to get their licensing and permitting. Start Small’s first phase is focused on the hospitality industry but the city plans to expand it over time.Did you like this story? Subscribe to NNS today.
