To be successful in doing so, I will need a support system. Luckily, my Father, is a member of the Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network and he has agreed to help me by putting together a plan of action to help me succeed in quitting.
One of the strategies to help me to stay smoke-free is to utilize resources offered by the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line (1-800-QUIT-NOW). This is a free resource offered by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services that can assist in providing counseling, medications that suppress the urge to smoke and many other helpful services.
The counselors at the Quit Line will help me identify triggers that lead to tobacco use and they will help me explore other healthy alternatives to cope with those triggers. Through my father, I’ve learned the detrimental health effects of tobacco use and by quitting I can add years to my life. If you’re a smoker and would like to start 2017 off right by quitting, please find a support network and call the Quit Line.
