The Milwaukee YMCA will host it’s 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast taking place on Monday January 16, 2017 at the Italian Conference Center from 7:30 a.m.- 9:00 a.m. As the theme in this year’s event, we have chosen to use Dr. King’s quote, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy”.
With an expectation of more than 600 guests, the event will open with a welcome from Governor Walker and Mayor Barrett, followed by a dance performance from Ko-Thi Dance company. Emceed this year by Ms. Cecelia Gore of the Brewers Community Foundation. We will present two major awards at the event, The Diversity and Inclusion Award sponsored by the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino will be presented to St. Ann Center for Inter-generational Care and The Healthy Citizenship Award sponsored by Harley-Davidson will be presented to Next Door. Both organizations missions and program delivery gives expression to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision . Once again, The Spoken Word Contest sponsored by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation will feature three children from various age groups reciting original short essays which examine some of the challenges of our time. The event will also include an “In Memoriam’ commemorating citizens we lost in 2016.
The vision of the Milwaukee Y is a healthier, stronger and safer Milwaukee, where families of all incomes and backgrounds truly thrive.
