On a brisk spring day in the Amani neighborhood, more than 100 alumni, current students, elected officials and community members gathered to celebrate the 105th anniversary of Auer Avenue School, 2319 W. Auer Ave.
Elected officials and speakers from partnering community organizations celebrated the school’s accomplishments over the years and noted work that’s yet to come. Attendees were also treated to a celebration in the school and tours of the building.
The school opened in 1912 and has undergone many changes over the years, including an addition in 1967, which currently houses its middle school. In recent years, the K-8 school has adopted the “community school” model. This designation means that the school offers students access to more social services and programs, and partners closely with surrounding community groups.
