Summer is an ideal time to volunteer! Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, features a calendar full of events, both one-time and ongoing including a Youth Summer of Service flyer. Here are a few opportunities in July and beyond.


Court Appointed Special Advocate

Kids Matter needs you to become a voice for children in foster care. Advocate for the best interests of a child to ensure the child has a safe, nurturing permanent home.  Summer training involves 5 required classes evenings and Saturday; July 11, 18, 21, 25 and 30.

Protect Our Plants – Habitat Restoration

Join Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers Environmental Health Department by pulling weeds and removing invasive species with hand tools at Pulaski Park Monday, July 9; 6-7:30 p.m. Sign up here.

Help Kids Make Slime

Help children make slime from scratch as they learn about its scientific properties at Milwaukee Public Library’s Villard Square branch on Tuesday, July 17; 1:15-4:00 pm. Apply by July 12.

Youth Sports Camp

Assist in sports and activities and ensure the safety of each camper at sports camp for youth with vision loss served by Vision Forward Association July 23-25; 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. at Marquette University, Straz Tower (Rec Plex). Apply here.

Food Pantry

Receive orders, pack bags and distribute food to families at food pantry for United Methodist Children’s Services; commit to one 2 hour weekday shift a month.

River Basin Steward

Remove invasive species, establish native plants and trees, maintain trails and collect seeds around Milwaukee’s river basin for River Revitalization Foundation; Monday and Friday afternoons and Saturdays.

Food Sorting to Solve Hunger!

Sort fresh produce donated from grocery stores and farmers for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin; mostly weekdays, 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Groups and individuals welcome. Sign up here.
