More than 200 city residents observed the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday by attending the Kujichagulia Luthern Center’s annual event, held this year at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Following two workshop sessions presented by area educators, teens from the youth organizations Urban Underground and Pathfinders discussed some of their challenges with adult attendees during a “Youth Speakout.”
Four days a week, “Ashley” (not her real name) attends Our Next Generation, a community-based nonprofit that offers after-school academic and enrichment programs. Ashley and her tutor, Sammie Lou Krieger, have worked together for six years, meeting every Monday for a one-on-one tutoring session.
