Marjorie Rucker, LISC Milwaukee’s commercial revitalization specialist, is focusing her efforts on restoring commercial corridors in the central city.
A group of LISC AmeriCorps members joined children from the Washington Park neighborhood recently to create artwork to decorate boarded-up homes in the community. The event, part of the national AmeriCorps volunteer week, took place at United Methodist Children’s Services, 3940 W. Lisbon Ave.
Four days a week, “Ashley” (not her real name) attends Our Next Generation, a community-based nonprofit that offers after-school academic and enrichment programs. Ashley and her tutor, Sammie Lou Krieger, have worked together for six years, meeting every Monday for a one-on-one tutoring session.
The residents, businesses, organizations and community development agencies that make up Washington Park Partners are hard at work beginning to implement a new five-year Sustainable Community Plan. The plan addresses seven areas of neighborhood life WPP considers crucial to a sustainable community.
For 16 years, Sammie Lou Krieger has volunteered at Our Next Generation, a community-based nonprofit that offers after-school, academic and enrichment programs. For the last six years, she has worked with the same student and said she hopes to continue doing so for years to come.
