The city of Milwaukee is sponsoring the 11th annual Milwaukee Child Health Week from August 12-19.
When Charles Brown, director of youth programs for Journey House, started a youth football program six years ago, he envisioned an activity that would keep youth between the ages of 6 and 14 off the streets and teach them life and character development skills. A few weeks ago, the Journey House Packers took to the practice field as the reigning division champions.
Solar energy is starting to shine a little more brightly in Lindsay Heights. Four organizations in the neighborhood have installed solar-energy systems in the last two years: LaVarnway Boys & Girls Club, Shalom High School, Cross Lutheran Church and Prince Hall apartments.
The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County recently kicked off its annual “Feed the Kids” Summer Mobile Lunch program, drawing volunteers to Red Arrow Park to make sandwiches and pack lunches for this summer’s 10-week campaign. The program, which runs from June 20 to Aug. 18, provides lunches to children throughout Milwaukee who otherwise might not have access to nutritious meals.
