Three schools in or near Layton Boulevard West will have new principals next fall. Erik R. Connor will replace Betty Blue, the outgoing principal of the Clarke Street School, 2816 W. Clarke St. Before his selection to lead the school, Connor was an assistant principal at Milwaukee Tech, Trades and Media, 5075 N. Sherman Blvd.
Thomas Bruno will replace Donald Wojczulis, the outgoing principal of the U.S. Grant Elementary School, 2920 W. Grant St. Before his selection to lead the school, Bruno was a district curriculum generalist at Roosevelt Creative Arts Middle School, 800 W. Walnut St.
Andrew Vitrano will replace Helen Bugni, the outgoing principal of the Manitoba School, 4040 W. Forest Home Ave. Before his selection to lead the school, Vitrano served as an assistant principal at Northwest Secondary School, 5496 N. 72nd St.
New principals will be taking the reins at 39 Milwaukee Public Schools next fall; 30 are new to the role, while nine current MPS principals received new school assignments. More than 22 percent of MPS schools are changing principals, due to an unusual number of retirements.
