Local poets Muhibb Dyer and Kwabena Nixon as well as filmmaker Janet Fitch were on hand recently at a screening of “Changing the Conversation: America’s Gun Violence Epidemic,” three Milwaukee-made films about reducing gun violence.
The event marked the launch a national engagement campaign called Guns, Grief & Grace in America, whose goal is to reframe gun violence as a public health threat that can be prevented.
The screening and press conference took place at Coffee Makes You Black, 2803 N. Teutonia Ave. Other speakers included representatives of the Milwaukee Fire Department, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Health Dept Office of Violence Prevention and Safe and Sound.
“It is wonderful to launch our campaign from this vibrant, dynamic gathering spot in the heart of the city,” commented Janet Fitch, director of the documentary.Did you like this story? Give Today
