Four youth from Our Next Generation will join five students from Marquette University’s Educational Opportunity Program on an educational trip to Washington, D.C. The trip will include visits to Arlington National Cemetery, the Pentagon, Georgetown University and other area universities and museums, DuPont Circle, and the National Mall. The trip will culminate with attendance of Barack Obama’s Presidential Inauguration.

Participants will depart Milwaukee on Friday, January 18 and return on Tuesday, January 22. Back in Milwaukee, Our Next Generation participants will deliver a presentation to their peers, sharing their personal photographs and experiences of the trip.

For more than two decades, Our Next Generation has provided quality academic support and life skills programs to thousands of children and youth, pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, in the heart of Milwaukee’s most challenged neighborhoods, with tangible results: better grades, higher high-school graduation rates, improved self-esteem, and positive attitudes toward the future.

Marquette University’s Educational Opportunity Program is an academic program that motivates and enables low-income and first generation students, whose parents do not have a baccalaureate degree, to enter and succeed in higher education.
