What is the artery?
A public park is growing to connect Harambee and Riverwest and we call it the artery!
The artery will extend a new biking and walking path called the Beerline Trail into Harambee that begins in Riverwest. The artery starts adjacent to the intersection of Keefe Avenue and Richards Street extending northwest for 2/3 mile to a bridge over Capitol Drive. This park was once part of the Old Milwaukee Railroad which had 7 tracks and was known as the Gibson Yards.
We imagine the artery as an outdoor stage where neighbors can connect through performances.
We invite you to perform in public with us at the artery during the summer and fall of 2014. We seek performance ideas that encourage safety and comfort the artery as a place to connect with one another.
We are open to many types of performance, including ones we haven’t imagined. Jazz, relay races, spoken word, barbeques, back flips, walking, gardening, treasure hunts, dancing, hugs, basketball, cooking, yoga, games, pep talks…we want to hear what you want to do!
We welcome ideas that can be performed outside, this may involve the trail, the plants, the buildings, the sidewalks, the bridge, the fences, parking lots, and anything else you find interesting in the artery. We seek performers at different skill levels who are neighbors of the trail.
We ask that you or one member of your team live or work in the core neighborhoods (Harambee/Williamsburg Heights/Riverwest) or those defined as local (Lincoln Park, Rufus King, Estabrook Park, Grover Heights, Arlington Heights, Borchert Field, North Division, Triangle North, Hillside, Halyard Park, Brewer’s Hill, or Schlitz Park) by the inlaid neighborhood map of Milwaukee.
