CVS removes tobacco products

CVS Caremark pharmacies took a bold stance on February 5 by announcing they will cease selling tobacco products in their stores by October 1, 2014.

When I first heard the news about CVS’ decision, I jumped for joy and was shocked that a private sector, for profit organization was willing to walk away from billions of dollars, annually. This is a noble and profound testament to their concern for the health and well being of their customers. Bravo to CVS and a challenge to Walgreens and others to follow suit.

Be sure when you visit CVS to thank them. By no longer selling tobacco products, they have shown that they strongly believe in their purpose to “help people on their path to better health.”

If you’re interested in more information on local tobacco prevention efforts here in Wisconsin visit The Wisconsin African American Tobacco Prevention Network at WWW.WAATPN.ORG.

Tobacco users who want to quit can receive free help from the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line. Call 1-800-QUIT NOW today.
