Tuesday, Sept. 1, marked the first day of class for most Milwaukee Public Schools. Superintendent Darienne Driver, Mayor Tom Barrett and members of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors attended a ceremony at Dr. George Washington Carver Academy on 1900 N. 1st St. Members of the administration spoke on areas they want to improve, including attendance rates and finding new ways to support students. After the speeches children entered the building down a red carpet while teachers welcomed them inside.
