Volunteers help prepare meals for seniors at Milwaukee Christian Center.

Volunteers help prepare meals for seniors at Milwaukee Christian Center.

Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features a calendar full of events for volunteers, both one-time and ongoing. Here are a few of the opportunities in August.


Serve Meals for the Elderly

Help prepare, serve and clean up an Asian meal with Hmong, Laotian, Caucasian and Latino seniors, weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Milwaukee Christian Center.

Tutor Adults

Tutor adults in reading, math, science and/or social studies to prepare for the GED, 9 a.m.- noon; or evenings, 4 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. at the Adult Learning Center; recruiting now for fall semester.

Front Desk Ambassador 

Greet callers and visitors, answer phones, assist with clerical tasks and monitor computer use in Cyber Center at Milwaukee LGBT Community Center weekdays and/or Saturdays; shifts available between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Minivan Driver

Transport blind or visually impaired clients and/or staff to trainings, classes, meetings and events using http://vision-forward.org/minivan for Vision Forward weekdays; some evening and weekend hours.

Guest House- Urban City Gardens

Help maintain and harvest produce for an urban garden program providing food for Guest House of Milwaukee, a homeless shelter; great opportunity for groups and families.

Help us Run Back to School!

Monitor the racecourse and distribute water at the Milwaukee Public Schools Run Back to School 7:30 – 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. Apply online by Aug. 19; click here to complete your volunteer form online.
