Two years ago, CVS went tobacco free and we thank them for making this responsible decision. The decision was natural, considering how it didn’t make sense for a pharmacy to distribute deadly products in addition to life-saving medicine.
Not only did the store make a big statement to adult customers but also to kids who shop on their own or with their parents. It shows us that the store cares about our health, something that can’t be said for much of the convenience stores, gas stations, or pharmacies in my community. African Americans have the highest smoking rate in our state and our community is bombarded with tobacco advertising, which makes it especially refreshing to be able to shop at a store that sells no tobacco at all!
In fact, the area of the store that used to hold tobacco products now features FDA approved cessation products such as skin patches, lozenges and gum. Talk about a change for the better! I hope that more stores follow CVS’s suit and teens such as myself will see more examples of stores that care about our health in the future. Thanks again, CVS!
