About 200 attendees enjoyed local food, neighborhood stories and entertainment at the recent Layton Boulevard West Neighbors 2016 annual gathering at the St. Joseph Center, 1501 S. Layton Blvd.

The event began with a “Taste of the Neighborhood,” where attendees sampled food from local restaurants and grocery stores such as Vientiane Noodle Shop, Tu Casa Mexican Restaurant and Bar, Thai Lotus Milwaukee, La Isla Restaurant, Bamboo in Silver City, El Señorial, Thai Bar-B-Que, Asian International Market, Jojo’s Fried Chicken, Wild Flour Bakery, El Rey Foods and Taco Loco. The Skai Academy Stage Band performed.

LBWN staff members presented information about community safety, social engagement, neighborhood appearance and economic development in the Silver City, Burnham Park and Layton Park neighborhoods. Residents also had the opportunity to share stories in small groups about their neighbors, and some told stories on stage.

The gathering concluded with presentations of the 2016 Good Neighbor Awards, the Most Improved Home Contest and the Love Where You Live photo contest.
