Now in its 20th year, the 2017 Mayor’s Design Awards is again accepting nominations. These unique awards recognize design excellence throughout the City of Milwaukee.

“For two decades we have honored some of the very best additions to Milwaukee.  New buildings, parks, amenities, and landscaping add to the fabric of our neighborhoods,” Mayor Tom Barrett said.  “With these awards, we celebrate the beauty, function, activity, innovation, and energy that have been added to our City.  Again this year we are inviting people to nominate projects that deserve to be recognized.”

Recipients of the award are honored for having added value to their neighborhoods by restoring, constructing, or enhancing their properties in a way that respects the urban fabric and contributes to the character of their surroundings. Sometimes awards go to grand, landmark structures; awards also go to smaller projects such as landscaping in a residential neighborhood.

Nominations are encouraged from the public and from individuals or organizations involved in the nominated project.  Worthy projects must be located in the City of Milwaukee and must have been completed (or nearly completed) any time prior to December 31, 2016. Submissions are welcome on or before March 31st at http://city.milwaukee.gov/MayorsDesignAwards/2017-Nomination-Form.
