Do you have time to volunteer? There are many choices, ranging from helping out at a crisis hotline to reading books to young children. Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, features a calendar full of events. Here are a few of the opportunities in March.

Healing Support for Sexual Assault Treatment Center

Respond to 24-hour crisis hotline to assess and address needs of the caller by providing information and referrals, emotional support and crisis intervention at Aurora Sinai Medical Center; training provided. Apply online here.

Safe Haven Assistance

Answer phone calls and check in and out homeless and mentally ill residents at Safe Haven, a shelter of Milwaukee Women’s Center, a Division of Community Advocates; Tuesdays 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Fizz, Pop, Jump Event

Help girls explore fizzing chemical reactions, popping experiments and dance movements with Above the Clouds Dance Studios for Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast at Holton Center Friday, March 17; 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Read With Me

Share the excitement of books and read with young children ages 2-5, as often as you’d like on Wednesdays, 1:15-3:45 p.m. and Thursdays and Fridays, 8:45-11:15 a.m. at Next Door’s Capitol Drive location.

Staff Storefront

Sell tour tickets and merchandise for Historic Milwaukee Saturdays 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and Sundays 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Food Delivery Day

Unload food deliveries and sort and restock food on shelves at Hope House food pantry for Friedens Community Ministries Thursday, March 9;  9- 11:30 a.m.
