St. Thomas More High School is proud to announce two new additions to its board of directors: Mr. Norman Barrientos, owner of Barrientos Design & Consulting, and Rev. Philip J. Schumaker, pastor and administrator of Bay View’s Immaculate Conception and St. Augustine of Hippo Parishes.

“Norman and Fr. Philip are both highly respected members of the Milwaukee community,” St. Thomas More board chair Larry Lenz said. “Their many professional accomplishments and strong commitment to volunteerism will provide St. Thomas More and its students with valuable leadership and perspective as we continue to strengthen and diversify our educational offerings.”

Inspired by his parents’ commitment to social justice and volunteerism, Norman Barrientos uses his talents and leadership skills to give back to the Milwaukee community. Barrientos has served on the board of directors for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Froedtert Hospital, the City of Milwaukee’s Arts Board, and Mount Mary University. During his 34-year career in architectural design, Barrientos has worked with many Milwaukee-area schools, including La Causa Community School, Notre Dame Schools of Milwaukee, United Community Center, Marquette University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“I hope to be a part of the transformation process for students at St. Thomas More,” Barrientos said. “A lot of development happens throughout these years, and it is important to help guide and support students during this time of spiritual, mental and emotional development.”

Reverend Philip J. Schumaker serves as administrator and pastor at Bay View’s Immaculate Conception and St. Augustine of Hippo Parishes and was previously associate pastor at St. John Vianney Parish in Brookfield. While serving on Milwaukee’s south side, Fr. Philip quickly learned about St. Thomas More’s history and reputation from his parishioners and was drawn to the school’s commitment to high-quality Catholic education.

“With history dating back nearly 150 years, St. Thomas More is an essential part of Milwaukee’s south side, especially for the Bay View community,” Fr. Philip said. “I’m excited to get more involved at St. Thomas More, helping students explore their faith during these formative years in their lives.”
