Do you: garden, shop at farmers markets, and seek out restaurants that support local farmers? Do you wonder: what else is needed to broaden and deepen the local, sustainable food movement?
This course will look behind the scenes of our food systems to explore some of the forward thinking efforts underway. We will explore policies that need to be addressed and local solutions so you can learn how to be a part of helping shift this movement to the next level.
We will cover a range of issues such as The Farm Bill, seed sovereignty, food waste diversion, the connections between healthy soil and healthy waterways. The series culminates with a panel discussion featuring local chefs and farmers.
Guest speakers, experts at the forefront of building sustainable food systems in the region, including Margaret Krome (Michael Fields Institute), Kitt Healy (UW-Madison), Melissa Tashjan (Compost Crusader) are a few of the guest speakers a part of this unique course.
