Back to school is typically a flurry of activity including shopping for clothing and school supplies, but many impoverished families simply cannot afford to buy these items. For over 50 years, a dedicated group of women has recognized the situation and embarked on a mission to clothe children in need. Since opening the doors of the Children’s Clothing Center, Ladies of Charity Milwaukee has remained steadfast in its mission. Last year, the group clothed nearly 1,000 Milwaukee children. Each child receives five tops, three pants, a hoodie, a winter coat, gloves, a hat, seven pairs of socks, underwear and a dictionary.

At 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, the group will open its doors for the upcoming school year. Located at 1936 N. 4th Street in Milwaukee, the Children’s Clothing Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. until noon every Thursday and one Saturday a month: September 8, October 13, November 10, December 8, January 12, February 9, March 9 and April 13. Ladies of Charity Milwaukee invites school social workers and principals to issue vouchers to families in need. All families must have an official voucher to receive clothing from the center. For more information about the clothing voucher program, please visit the website at www.LOCMilwaukee.org.

Ladies of Charity Milwaukee is 100 percent volunteer-based, and the charity relies on clothing and cash donations to operate the Children’s Clothing Center. To support Ladies of Charity Milwaukee, please visit www.LOCMilwaukee.org.
