It’s Tuesday in Milwaukee, and here are some events we think you shouldn’t miss. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday.

1. Unlock the Vote MKE official launch: Wednesday, Sept. 4

EX-incarcerated People Organizing, better known as EXPO, along with its partners, is officially launching Unlock the Vote MKE at Hepatha Lutheran Church, 1720 W. Locust St., on Wednesday, Sept. 4. “Unlock the Vote” is proposed legislation to restore the right to vote to people released from prison. Learn more about the legislation during the event, which starts at 6 p.m.

2. Havenwoods annual luncheon and meeting: Thursday, Sept. 5

Havenwoods Economic Development and the Hmong Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce are hosting the annual Havenwoods luncheon at the Wisconsin Club, 6200 W. Good Hope Rd., on Thursday, Sept. 5. The meeting provides an opportunity to celebrate Havenwoods and discuss the community’s shared vision for its future. To register click here. The event starts at 11 a.m. with lunch to begin at noon. 

3. Crafting Art in the Near West Side: Friday, Sept. 6

Near West Side Partners is hosting an art and music exhibition at the Central Standard Distillery, 2330 W. Clybourn St., on Friday, Sept. 6. The show will feature performance by Dasha Kelly and art by Milwaukee artists. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

4. Silver City InterNational Fest 2019: Saturday, Sept. 7

Silver City InterNational Fest will celebrate the cultures of Silver City on Saturday, Sept. 7. The annual festival will be held on West National Avenue between south 33rd and 35th streets. Admission is free. Come enjoy food, music and dance from Asia, Latin America, Africa and more. It starts at noon.

Bonus: NNS at Silver City InterNational Fest: Saturday, Sept. 7

Did you miss your opportunity to get your photo taken in NNS’s living room set? Well fear not, because NNS will be stationed at Silver City InterNational Fest from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. Look for the infamous orange couch on West National Avenue between south 33rd and 35th streets. Hope to see you there!
