It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about as the nation grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday.

  1. “Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition” on display at Milwaukee Public Museum: Now until Sunday, Aug. 1
    The Milwaukee Public Museum is currently displaying “Nelson Mandela: The Official Exhibition.” The exhibit was brought to Milwaukee in partnership with America’s Black Holocaust Museum. The Milwaukee Public Museum, 800 W. Wells St., is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online and include admission to the Mandela exhibit. The museum will display the exhibition from now until Sunday, Aug. 1.   2. Spring virtual job fair: Tuesday, April 27
    Employ Milwaukee is hosting a virtual job fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27. To register, click here. Participants are required to upload a PDF formatted resume when registering. They will be able to meet with and chat with over 50 employers.
  3. SistaStrings performance on Facebook Live: Tuesday, April 27
    SistaStrings is the musical guest for the Collective Impact Forum, an initiative hosted by FSG and the Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions. The SistaStrings’ performance will be broadcast on Facebook Live from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27.
  4. Prayer vigil to honor Workers’ Memorial Day: Wednesday, April 28
    Voces de la Frontera is hosting a prayer vigil to honor Workers’ Memorial Day 2021. The vigil will remember those who have been lost and honor those who are still here. There will be singing and prayer. The vigil will take place at the Federal Building, 517 E. Wisconsin Ave., at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28.
  5. Milwaukee Area Technical College open house: Thursday, April 29
    Milwaukee Area Technical College or MATC is hosting a virtual open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 29. The virtual lobby will open at 5:30 p.m. Click here to register. Participants will learn about the school’s programs, services and scholarship opportunities. For more information, click here.

Bonus: United Community Center’s 51st anniversary celebration: Thursday, April 29
The United Community Center is hosting a virtual celebration in honor of its  51st anniversary. The event takes place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 29. The theme is “Making 2021 One of a Kind.” Tickets can be purchased here and cost whatever you want to spend. All ticket purchases will be donated to the United Community Center and matched by a United Community Center donor. The celebration will feature five graduates, special guests and more. There will also be a raffle.
