Of all the stories I wrote in 2021, my piece on Milwaukee’s urban farmers was my favorite.
For a couple of weeks in September, seemingly all I did was run around taking photos and interviewing residents about their craft.
I learned so much from these farmers (and the ones who did not want to be photographed but wanted to share their story) about building community through food, tips for growing certain crops and, most important, that growing food is more about the process than the product.

I read this hoping to find something written about some friends at Riverwest Food Pantry. They have an urban farm and have a lot of people volunteering on it to grow food that they give out at the pantry. Really great organization and great people.
