It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know.

1. “Hot Sauce Poetry” spoken word open mic: Friday, Jan. 28
Daddy’s Soul Food and Grill hosts this open mic featuring comedy, poetry and music. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 at 754 N. 27th St. Click here for tickets.
2. Hip-Hop Chess Club: Friday, Jan. 28
Old school meets new school at this event hosted by Your Move MKE. This kid-friendly event is tailored to ages 9+ but all ages are welcome if a parent/guardian will be closely watching the younger children. The event begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 at 2926 W. 3. Learn to play Ultimate Frisbee: Friday, Jan. 28
Teens and adults are welcome to a chance to learn how to play Ultimate Frisbee from the Milwaukee Medusa, a local women’s Ultimate Frisbee team. Participants receive a Frisbee to take home. The workshop begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 at Running Rebels East, 225 W. Capitol Drive. No prior experience with frisbees required.
4. The City Review basketball showcase: Saturday, Jan. 29
Milwaukee’s future basketball talent will be on display at this year’s City Review, featuring the city’s top high school basketball teams. Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Marquette University’s Al McGuire Center, 770 N. 12th St. Click here for more information.
5. The Healing Gathering: Saturday, Jan. 29
Join others in the community who are trying to heal from trauma at this free gathering featuring a panel discussion and live performance that focuses on the experiences of youths. The event begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29 at City Of Light Church, 6725 W. Burleigh St. Click here for more information.
