Make our community a better place by volunteering. Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee features a calendar of events for volunteers, both one-time and ongoing. Here are a few of the opportunities in August and beyond.

One-on-One Tutoring Experience

Tutors Amani adult residents in one-on-one in basic reading, writing and math at the Dominican Center; minimum commitment of 2 hours a week, Monday-Thursday, 9-11:30 a.m. Apply in Aug.; school starts Sept. 4.

Feed Women & Families on Monday Nights

Groups are needed to donate and serve a meal for 50-70 people at Meta House on Monday nights for Celebrating Families program now until Oct. 15.

Shelter receptionist

Answer phones, check in visitors and be comfortable interacting with homeless adults experiencing mental illness and addictions weekdays at The Cathedral Center’s homeless shelter.

Exhibits Volunteer

Engage visitors, share information and answer questions about an exhibit at Milwaukee Public Museum weekdays and/or weekends. Learn more and fill out application here.

Greenwish Village at Irish Fest

Help Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful bring environmental education to Irish Fest attendees; help with set-up, arts & crafts or games August 17-19, 3 to 4 hour shifts. Sign up here.

MPS Run Back to School

Show your support of Milwaukee Public Schools. Cheer on walkers and runners as a course marshal and pass out water at water stations Sunday, August 25, 7:30-11a.m.; various shifts.
