Earn & Learn, a popular summer jobs program that helps young people prepare for employment, is now accepting applications, the Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board (MAWIB) announced. The program runs from July 1 to Aug. 24.

Although teens as young as 14 are eligible to apply, priority will be given to those 16- to 21-years old due to limited funding, according to MAWIB. The program is funded through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

The Earn & Learn Summer Youth Jobs Initiative is designed to introduce participants to a potential career and help them build their resumés. The jobs pay $7.50 per hour.

Alisse Sinclair, who worked at Discovery World in summer 2013, said that the Earn & Learn program taught her that, “there’s nothing you can’t do.” She plans to have her own clothing line and “pursue my passion of becoming a model.”

The deadline to apply for the program is April 24 at 4 p.m. Applications can be downloaded at www.milwaukeewib.org or picked up in person at MAWIB, 2342 N. 27th St. Applicants must submit proof of their date of birth, address and income, and a copy of the front and back of their Social Security cards.

Males 18 years of age or older must be registered with the Selective Service.

For more information, contact the Earn & Learn program at (414) 270-7550.
