The Rev. Timothy Kitzke has witnessed the toll guns have taken on Milwaukee’s youth and know firsthand how complex the problem of gun violence is. Unfortunately an easy answer isn’t at hand, he said, but he hopes politicians, neighborhood residents, the church and others can put people ahead of politics and come together to find a solution. He has been assigned to Catholic parishes in the Milwaukee area for 16 years and is currently vicar general, working with four parishes covering the central city.

It is apparent to all people that violence has increased exponentially in recent years. Unfortunately the underlying reasons are a much greater problem than the weapon used. There is widespread DISrespect for LIFE, sex being used gratuitously for entertainment instead of responsibly in marriage an increasing breakdown in the family structure with many absentee dads-hence no role models and reduced discipline, exploding entitlement programs destroying motivation to go to school & work-resulting in limited opportunities, etc… The disadvantaged population feels greater frustration causing anger & hopelessness which leads to excessive alcoholism, drug use, blame & rage. Rather than community leaders and government uniting people by emphasizing common bonds, differences are hi lighted, celebrated while casting perceptions of disenfranchisement & victim hood on its members who in turn demand special treatment. In a nutshell, our culture has lost its way when they started shutting God out of their lives and we are facing the consequences. Now it is time to come TOGETHER as one people to work cooperatively toward the common good for all. Of course it will be a gradual process, but denying Constitutional rights to the Second Amendment will only deny law abiding citizens their freedom to protect their families & property since criminals who disregard laws will still feel frustration, be angry, disrespect life, feel they are entitled to whatever they want and obtain it without regard for others. I pray that we can heal as one people in a United Country.
I could not agree more. Well said !
