Matters of the Heart congregational members and students came together for the 34th “All-A-Thon” to raise money for the Dr. Martin Luther King Scholarship, which helps inner city students cover the costs of college.

Students must raise a minimum of $200 and write an essay to be eligible for the scholarship. They raise money by asking people for pledges and to participate in the All-A-Thon. Participants can complete the five miles any way they like, including biking, walking and skating.

Pastor Teresa Thomas-Boyd, a pastor at Matters of The Heart, said the All-A-Thon is about informing the community about the scholarship as well as fundraising.

“We want to emphasize the value of education,” Thomas-Boyd said. “We are doing the walk to raise community awareness.”
