  • Attendees were given guides with a map to the 30 projections throughout two blocks. (All photos by Adam Carr)
  • Cathy C. Cook's interactive projection "Mimicking Whooper."
  • Ted Brusubardis' "Dvēseles dziesma 2016" synced images of performers on building sides with music playing on the street.
  • "Entirely mattress ready..." by Naomi Shersty and Xav Leplae, which they describe as "...a bed located in the middle of an urban alley. Projected upon the bed are subjects at rest. A commercial alley is typically a dirty, uneasy space; this piece posits a notion of domestic comfort at retail's unsightly backdoor."
  • "Tafuddal (Please Enter)" by David Najib Kasir and Wes Tank. The piece is described as an "attempt to help viewers, in a visceral way, break a degree of the emotional and experiential distance that the Western world has towards the reality of refugees of the war in Syria."
  • A number of taco trucks lined up outside of St. Anthony's Church.
  • Kim Miller and Peter Barrickman's "The Contemporary Shoe."
  • Maeve Jackson's "Michmacuán, baile junto al agua."
  • Lily Baldwin's "BFF."
  • The event went from sundown to midnight.
  • Projection by Mark Escribano.
  • Isaac Brooks' projection entitled "Secret City," which he described as "a kidnapped procession through a city hallway of newfound nostalgia."
  • Paul Druecke's "Monumentus Interruptis."
  • Adam Carr and Wes Tank's "A Sun Fair Deferred," which projected footage taken on a ride during a Sun Fair onto the third- and fourth-floors of the building where the ride was located.

After the sun set on one of the longest days of the summer, hundreds of visitors came to experience the familiar buildings of Mitchell Street like they’ve never seen them before during Temporary Resurfacing.

Thirty local, national and international artists participated in the event, presenting video projections representing a wide range of approaches and styles. On, between and behind buildings, the projections ranged from large pieces covering whole walls to smaller ones blended into storefront windows to experimental pieces that took attendees by surprise.

Co-organizers Demitra Copolous, Marla Sanvick and Maeve Jackson worked for over a year coordinating with business owners and participating artists, as well as building support for Temporary Resurfacing. The event took place between 9th and 11th Street on Historic Mitchell Street.

The first Temporary Resurfacing event took place in September 2014.
