The Milwaukee Diabetes and Oral Health Gallery (1200 Cesar Chavez Dr)
The Milwaukee Diabetes and Oral Health Art Gallery, Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative, youth from La Luz Del Mundo/Light of the World Church, and neighborhood youth, including interns from Journey House have joined with A.W.E. artists, John Kowalczyk and Isabel Castro, to create a public mural.
The theme of the mural is health equity, an important value in the Clarke Square neighborhood that residents have shared through the Quality of Life planning process. “The mural represents connections to each other and connecting ourselves to health awareness and health goals, it is art as a method of health advocacy,” shares resident and advocate, Marcela Garcia. Marcela and her sister, Dr. Dina Garcia, run the Milwaukee Diabetes and Oral Health Art Gallery.
Community members are encouraged to join in the painting process August 11-12 from 10am-3pm.
This project is funded by the Zilber Family Foundation, the Milwaukee Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin, MPS Partnership for the Arts and Humanities, City of Milwaukee NIDC.
We hope to see you at the unveiling!
