Sister Lourdes Pangelinan tutors a sixth-grader at Blessed Savior West Campus.

Help youth succeed in school and life! The start of the school year offers many opportunities to volunteer. Volunteer Milwaukee, a service of the Nonprofit Center, features a calendar full of events for volunteers, both one-time and ongoing.

Mentor a Local Youth – Big Brothers Big Sisters Of Metro Milwaukee

Be a Community-based or School-based mentor to a youth age 6 to 18 through one-to-one, professionally supported mentoring relationships; meet on a regular basis. Sign up today and be a positive role model to a child in your community.

Homework Center: Help Close the Achievement Gap – CommonBond Communities

Tutor students grades 1-12 at Glenbrook Apartments. Help youth with homework, develop study skills, and build positive relationships. Monday-Thursday, 3-5:30 p.m.; 1-2 hours/week.

Tutor and Mentor for Youth – Heartlove Place

Tutor and provide homework help, as well as be a support to our young people, ages 12-17 in after-school program. Wednesdays 2:30-4 p.m. once every other week or more.

Help Improve Literacy in Milwaukee County – Interfaith Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Milwaukee County

Tutor elementary students in reading at a Milwaukee Public School weekdays, 90 minutes once a week for a semester. Must be 55 or older.

Mentor Youth in 4-H Tech Wizards Clubs – Milwaukee County – University Of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension

Encourage youth to complete high school and pursue careers in technology, math, and science at Nativity Jesuit Middle School. Thursdays 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m.

Mentor and Tutor Teens – Neighborhood House of Milwaukee

Be a role model, help students ages 13-19 with homework 2:30-5 p.m., at gym/physical fitness activities 6-8 p.m. and/or create art 4-5 p.m. or 6-8 p.m.; 1-2 hours, weekly for the school year.

Youth Empowerment Project – Our Daily Bread Community Outreach Center

Serve as a positive role model and assist with educational activities such as customer service training, workshops, resume/cover letter writings, etc. to youth ages 14-25. Saturdays, 5 hours per month, September 23-December 23.
