The Financial Diaries: How American Families Cope in a World of Uncertainty.
You may have caught Schneider’s interview on WUWM’s Lake Effect in July, when she and Mitch Teich discussed how volatile a household’s cash flow can be, even when its members are employed. That’s because many workers, often overlooked in media reports and economic research, have their hours cut when work is slow, work on commission or tips, or have seasonal ebbs and flows in their incomes that often don’t match their expenses.
Schneider and Morduch delved into this phenomenon in The Financial Diaries, based on their original research tracking 235 low- and moderate-income households over the course of a year.
On Wednesday, November 15, Schneider will be joined by:
Steve Holt: Holt has served as Block Grant Director for the City of Milwaukee, led the Milwaukee Jobs Initiative and other nonprofit organizations, and worked as a lobbyist at the state and federal levels on welfare, employment, and tax policy.
Maudwella Kirkendoll: Kirkendoll’s career at Community Advocates began in 1999 as a Housing Advocate and over the years he became responsible for oversight of all Housing, Utility, Health Care, Disability, and Customer Service programs and services. He was named Community Advocates’ Chief Operating Officer in 2014.
The panel will be moderated by the Public Policy Institute’s Senior Policy Analyst for the Working Our Way Out of Poverty Project, Julie Kerksick.
We’ll provide light refreshments at 11:30 a.m. before our expert panel discussion begins at noon, which will run through 1:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, but RSVPs are required to allow us to plan appropriately. Free will donations to the Public Policy Institute will be gratefully accepted.
