As August begins, Alice’s Garden in Lindsay Heights is bursting with abundant flowers, produce and herbs. The garden, at 2136 N. 21st St., is under the leadership of Venice Williams, executive director.

Alice’s Garden was named in honor of Alice Meade-Taylor, the first African-American executive director of the Milwaukee County Cooperative Extension. Meade-Taylor believed that gardening programs for children, youth and families can help build neighborhoods and nurture people.
