So, how are you doing?

We continue to check in with our community as we learn to live with the challenges of COVID-19.

‘Focus on the things that really matter to you’

(Photo provided by Pete Cooney)

Who: Pete Cooney, owner of Pete’s Pops

Neighborhood: Near West Side/Martin Drive

How has your life been since we’ve been told to stay indoors?

It has been a wild ride. On the personal side, it has been scary. But there have also been aspects and moments of slowing down that have been really nice. On the business side, it has been incredibly stressful. However, the challenge of navigating a business through COVID-19  is something that I am trying to embrace and use as an opportunity to adapt in ways that will have a long lasting positive impact into the future whenever things return to “normal.”

What do you feel you need more of?

Sales. I’m concerned about revenue with all of the canceled events this summer.

What do you need less of?

So much has already been stripped away.

Say something to inspire your neighbor.

Whether it’s your family, your health, your community, or your business, now is a time to focus on the things that really matter to you. I think if you can do that, then you will be able to get through this trying time and come out the other side stronger.

‘Take time to breathe’

Who: TrueMan McGee owner and head rollmaster of Funky Fresh Spring Rolls

Neighborhood: Sherman Park area

How has your life been since we’ve been told to stay indoors?

Life has changed but goals of making delicious healthier options, engage in the community and loving the world are the same.

What do you feel you need more of?

Personally, I have been spending a lot of time getting in shape, eating healthier and spending time with family.

What do you need less of?

Worrying.

Say something to inspire your neighbor.

If you are doing a lot to prepare yourself for a magnificent comeback for when this pandemic is over or not … there is no right or wrong answer. Take time to call and check on family. Be empathetic. Take time to breathe. We are all in this together.
