In a neighborhood known for its negative statistics, Shechem will be a safe place and a new beginning. A place to see through growth in our neighborhood and build community across greater Milwaukee. A space designed to meet and work through our collective brokenness, together.

Hope Street Ministry, a non-profit committed to building community on Milwaukee’s Northside for over 20 years, is developing Shechem at Hope Street, a community center and haven of hope. The building, designed to house a gym, classrooms, cafe, resource center, rooftop patio and garden and event spaces, will welcome people from all across Milwaukee to come together, learn and grow alongside one another.

Shechem is a place where we can join together, reach across the table and to begin the work of breaking down preconceived notions. A place where we have the ability to open our hearts and minds to what has put people in the places and situations different than our own and how we can grow from there.

Shechem will give Hope Street a place to partner with other organizations in our community doing good, but who might not have the space to run programming.  It will invite in local leaders, businesses and community members to join together and invest in this neighborhood.

It’s a place for healing, fun and growth. Shechem’s spaces and programming will allow people to focus on holistic wellbeing. It’s a place for people to cultivate hope, disrupt brokenness and go on to lead flourishing lives.

Hope Street Ministry is breaking ground on Shechem Thurdsay, November 5th at 10:00AM at 2510 W Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53206. Hope Street is entering into phase 1 of the build by laying the foundation. You can find out more about Shechem at https://www.hopestreetministry.org/shechem

Hope Street Ministry is a not-for-profit organization in the city of Milwaukee, creating spaces to help form healthy communities.
