“The opposite of only reporting “bad news” isn’t just doing “good news” — it’s capturing the complexity and depth of the whole story,” says Adam Carr, a deputy editor at NNS. (File photo by Brendan O’Brien)
Name: Adam Carr
What I do at NNS: In our small but mighty newsroom, my job is best captured by “other duties as assigned.” These days, this includes overseeing our “Community Voices” column, working with reporters on sourcing, feeding our media partnerships and organizing special projects.
How long I’ve worked here: I was the first person to join the staff after the original team that launched NNS in 2011. So, I’m coming up on nine years with NNS.
Why I love NNS: The opposite of only reporting “bad news” isn’t just doing “good news” — it’s capturing the complexity and depth of the whole story. When we’re at our best, this is the work we do at NNS, which is sorely needed in Milwaukee.
What are you most proud of? While the majority of my work is behind-the-scenes, and without a byline, occasionally I put my creative muscles to use for NNS.
During the summer of 2019, we had a blast taking family portraits on a vintage couch and living room at Washington Park Wednesday, Music in Mitchell Park and Silver City InterNational Festival. Then, this spring, we showcased graduates whose ceremonies were scrubbed by the pandemic with a photo shoot on front lawns throughout our neighborhoods.
