It’s pretty easy to get your news published on the NNS site, says Ana Martinez-Ortiz, community engagement reporter. (Photo provided by Ana Martinez-Ortiz)

At the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, our mission is to help the people and organizations in our community.

One of the ways we do this is through “Posts from Community.” This  feature is the place where you can submit news releases and photos. Submissions are checked and approved on a weekly basis.

“Posts from Community” reaches our audience through the NNS website and social media. In short, posts are by the community and for the community.

Below are some examples of “Posts from Community”:

•Post from Community: MKE Black announces new executive director

MKE Black announced Rick Banks as its new executive director.

•Post from Community: Ascension Wisconsin and Outreach Community Health Centers expand dental services on Milwaukee’s North Side

Last month, Ascension Wisconsin posted about its dental services’ expansion.

•Post from Community: BBB Scam Alert: This get-rich-quick con promises fast money on Cash App

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau took advantage of “Post from Community” to alert the community on money-flipping scams.

If you haven’t already, I hope you consider using “Posts from Community” to your advantage in the near future.

Ana Martinez-Ortiz is the community engagement reporter at the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service.

Please bring back the “PSA” to Milwaukee’s media world (Public Service Announcement). It’s a service long-missing from popular media outlets where the scrounging for advertising dollars pushed the once popular PSA out the door.
What could this be in 2021? Public calendars for different categories, accessed by pre-registered users.
This is particularly important for Milwaukee’s arts groups. Printable for some users.

Here’s one example of the local need: Milwaukee’s Plaza Hotel & Apartments occasionally prints out what’s happening on any given weekend for their guests and leaves it laying at the front desk. In 2021. Reminds me of Milwaukee in 1982.

Hi Gary, thank you for the suggestion. We do something along those lines called 5 Things To Do and Know for the Week and Weekend. It is published every Monday and Friday. You can email me at amartinez-ortiz@milwaukeenns.org with suggestions for the list using the subject line ‘5 Things.’
