It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about as the nation grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. Evelyn’s Circle blood drive at the Sherman Phoenix: Friday, April 9

Eveyln’s Circle is hosting a blood drive at the Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave., from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 9. To schedule your appointment, click here. Photo ID and face masks are required to donate blood.



2. Southside Organizing Center celebrates milestone:: Friday, April 9

When the coronavirus pandemic began, Southside Organizing Center shifted its in-person forums to an online forum with “3 o’clock with SOC.” The organization is celebrating the forum’s one-year anniversary with a Facebook Live at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 9. Participants will receive a mental health basket that includes a mask, sanitizer, essential oils and other items. To register, click here. 3. Tree planting with Friends of Havenwoods State Forest: Saturday, April 10

Friends of Havenwoods State Forest is planting trees in Havenwoods, 6141 N. Hopkins St., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 10. The group will meet in the parking lot and go over how to plant a tree. Equipment will be provided. Participants are asked to register to ensure that social distancing can be maintained.

4. Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival virtual series: Saturday, April 10

The Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition is hosting the Milwaukee Muslim Film Festival. This week, the festival will be screening the documentary “Fordson: Faith, Fasting, Football.” The documentary follows a predominantly Arab American high school football team as they practice for a game during the last 10 days of Ramadan. The film will be screened virtually at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 10. Click here to register.

5. Danceworks family fun day: Sunday, April 11

Danceworks, 1661 N. Water St., is having a family fun day from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 11. The theme is “Aliens in April” and tickets can be purchased here. The workshop includes a visual art component and a dance component. Participants are invited to “space out” on the dance floor and create a little alien.
