Expensify.org, a charity founded by the preaccounting platform Expensify, today announced over 60 semi-finalists advancing to the first voting round for the Community Justice Grant Challenge. The grant challenge will provide up to $100,000 in funding to 10 grassroots organizations or individuals fighting injustices in their community. This initiative is just the beginning and part of Expensify’s $3 million commitment to combat systemic inequity.

Since launching the grant challenge in February, Expensify.org received more than 1,000 applications to advance community initiatives supporting climate justice, food security, housing equity, reentry services, or youth advocacy. Now entering the voting stage, Expensify.org is inviting members of the public to cast their ballot for the campaigns they think should win up to $100,000 of the over 60 qualifying campaigns seeking to scale their efforts for change.

Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and run by The Community, the Pre-Entry: Customized Career Assistance project aims to prepare incarcerated people for success and transform societal stereotypes and fears about this demographic so preparation meets opportunity prior to and upon release. Through pre-entry training, the program creates opportunities for real careers that can offer more than the minimum wage to prevent reoffending among formerly incarcerated individuals. To learn more about the over 60 qualifying campaigns from across the world, visit www.expensify.org.

“It’s simply been amazing seeing how many people are out there fighting for change, justice, and equity in their communities. The level of creativity and hustle shown by these applicants reminds us that change is possible – especially when we work together to build local solutions that empower those most affected by the issues,” said Puneet Lath, a Director at Expensify. “We’ve worked closely with all the applicants to truly understand their campaign proposals, and we’re excited for the public to see all the incredible ideas that they can help support simply by voting.”

Voting is open from July 19, 2021 through July 26, 2021 @ 11:50 p.m. PST on www.expensify.org. All members of the public are eligible to vote. People can vote for one campaign per fund category for a total of five campaigns. Ten finalists will be announced shortly after voting closes. Additionally, to honor the incredible effort put into these campaign applications, we are going to fund all semifinalists with up to $5,000 in reimbursements each, starting immediately.
