It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about as you head into the weekend.

1. Milwaukee Health Department 20th annual Back-to-School Health Fair: Friday, Aug. 6
The Milwaukee Health Department is hosting its annual Back-to-School Health Fair. Children can receive immunizations, school supplies, water filters and more. The COVID-19 vaccine will be available for eligible children, parents and guardians. The fair will take place at Southside Health Center, 1639 S. 23rd St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6.
2. HIR Wellness Institute: Healing with radical joy: Friday, Aug. 6
Earlier this summer, the HIR Wellness Institute launched its “Summer of Radical Healing” series, which offers the community a space to heal through self-guided prompts. “Healing with Radical Joy” is a program during which community healers play music and offer opportunities to move and connect. This week, “Healing with Radical Joy” will take place on Facebook Live at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6. This event is a weekly recurrence.
3. 10th annual Bronzeville Week celebration: Saturday, Aug. 7 to Saturday, Aug. 14
Milwaukee’s annual Bronzeville Week celebration is back. This year, the celebration will take place from Saturday, Aug. 7 to Saturday, Aug. 14. This weekend’s events include HaRUNbee, a brunch, a mommy and baby care package drive, a sleepover for education and more. For the full list of events, visit the Bronzeville Week Facebook Page.
4. Temporary road closures: Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8
The USA Triathlon and the “HaRUNbee 5K Walk/Run” are taking place in Milwaukee this weekend and there will be some temporary road closures. The USA Triathlon will take place along the lakeshore and impact North Lincoln Memorial Drive, East Clybourn Street, East Michigan Street, North Art Museum Drive, North Harbor Drive and North Lake Drive. Those changes will be in effect from 4:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7 and from 4:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 8. HaRUNbee will close North Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from West Vliet Street to West Locust Street from 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 7. For more details, click here.
5. Lynden Sculpture Garden: HOME Fashion Day: Saturday, Aug. 7
Lynden Sculpture Garden, 2145 W. Brown Deer Rd., is featuring refugee designers as part of its HOME Fashion Day. The show features cultural, contemporary and high fashion styles by various designers. Attendees are encouraged to wear something that represents their own culture and traditions. The show will take place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7. This event is free and open to the public.
