Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and the City of Milwaukee announced Thursday that they are teaming up to support those who lost power last week because of the storms by offering free grocery gift cards and food starting this weekend.

Grocery gift card distribution will take place Friday, Aug. 20 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the following Pick ‘N Save locations:

  • 1100 E. Garfield Ave
  • 7401 W. Good Hope Rd.
  • 250 W. Holt Ave.

About 1,000 gift cards will be available at each location, and they will be limited to one per household and are first come, first served while supplies last, the news release said.

Each recipient must provide proof of address such as a driver’s license or valid state ID. Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin is working with We Energies to verify power outages. There will be a process on-site to verify outages.

From Saturday, Aug. 21 through Thursday, Aug. 26 there will also be food distribution at the following locations:

Saturday, Aug. 21: Greater New Birth, 8237 W. Silver Spring Drive, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Monday, Aug. 23: UMOS, 2701 S. Chase Ave., from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 24: Children’s Hospital Midtown Clinic, 5433 W. Fond Du Lac Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon.

Wednesday, Aug. 25: WestCare E.A.T.S., Harambee Community Center, 335 W. Wright St., from 9 a.m. to noon.

Thursday, Aug. 26: Hope Lutheran Pantry, 1115 N. 35th St., from 9 a.m. to noon.

Here are more things you should know:

What to do if your food spoils because of the storm:

If you receive FoodShare and had food spoil because of a storm-related power outage, you can have the food replaced. FoodShare members should contact their local agency to request replacement benefits. Replacement benefits are issued for the amount of food lost, up to the amount of benefits already issued for the month.

Fill out the Request for Replacement FoodShare Benefits form and submit it to your agency. Reach out to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin for help with FoodShare at: www.feedingamericawi.org. While FoodShare can be replaced due to power outages, P-EBT cannot.

The American Red Cross has tips for staying safe and recovering:

Need to report a power outage?

File a report to We Energies here or call 800-662-4797. Don’t assume that the utility is aware of the outage.

  • 1100 E. Garfield Ave
  • 7401 W. Good Hope Rd.
  • 250 W. Holt Ave.

What about those of us who don’t live in the city of Milwaukee?
We live in West Allis. We lost our electricity for for about 18 hours and with the heat wave our frig & freezer got warm very quickly(we have no Air conditioning) We lost, Almond Milk, Eggs, 8 pk of Activia Yogurt & 7 cups of Yoplait.
Sliced Boars head Sweet-slice Ham & EverRoast Chicken.
    3 lbs Ground Beef, 2- 4 pk’s Chicken breast
3 Hagen Daz Ice🍦creams and 2 boxes of Bomb Pop Popsicles.
I could go on, but that’s the majority of what we lost.
    I know we’re not alone!

How about those outside of Milwaukee County (new berlin) who don’t receive foodshare? Are we not able to get help? I had to throw away food because I was out of power Tuesday night to Thursday.
